Guests often ask where to go for a drink after dinner. These are the six bars we recommend. Five are within a ten-minute walk; Martiny’s is a short cab ride.

    510 Hudson Street · West Village

    Behind the neon Psychic sign on Hudson Street. Opened in 2004; bartenders in white jackets, open until 4am.

    Know: the bar is walk-in (their Resy bookings are for dinner tables). No caps, gym clothes or flip-flops. No. 45 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026.

  • Angel’s Share

    6 min walk

    45 Grove Street · West Village

    Opened in the East Village in 1993 and moved to Grove Street in 2023, with the original angel mural. Japanese-style cocktails in a quiet room.

    Know: walk-in only, parties of four or fewer, no standing. Closed Sunday and Monday. No. 31 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026.

  • Martiny’s

    10 min cab

    121 East 17th Street · Gramercy

    Takuma Watanabe, formerly head bartender at Angel’s Share, opened it in 2022 in a nineteenth-century carriage house that was once the studio of the sculptor Philip Martiny. Three floors of Ginza-style cocktails; the signature is the Oriental Manhattan.

    Know: book on Resy (reservations carry a $50 per person minimum) or walk in. No. 23 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026.

  • Dante

    3 min walk

    551 Hudson Street at Perry · West Village

    The original on MacDougal Street was named the World’s Best Bar in 2019. The Dante we send people to is the West Village one, three minutes away at Hudson and Perry, open until midnight.

    Know: tables book on Resy; the bar is first come, first served. Dante Aperitivo is four minutes away at 51 Bank Street, and the original is at 79 MacDougal Street.

  • Sip & Guzzle

    10 min walk

    29 Cornelia Street · West Village

    Two bars in the former Cornelia Street Cafe. Guzzle, on the ground floor, serves highballs, Japanese beer and classics and is run by Steve Schneider, formerly of Employees Only. Sip, downstairs, is a quieter cocktail bar from Shingo Gokan’s team. Named the best bar in North America in 2026.

    Know: reservations open ten days out at midnight and go in about a minute and a half. There is a nightly waitlist, and Guzzle keeps room for walk-ins.

  • Katana Kitten

    2 min walk

    531 Hudson Street · West Village

    Masa Urushido’s Japanese-American bar, across Hudson from Employees Only. It opened in 2018 and was named America’s best new bar the following year. Open until 2 most nights.

    Know: walk-in only.

Where should I go for cocktails after dinner in the West Village?+
From WEST10WEST at 242 West 10th Street, the bars we send people to are Employees Only (510 Hudson, two minutes), Angel’s Share (45 Grove Street, six minutes), Dante West Village (551 Hudson at Perry, three minutes), Sip & Guzzle (29 Cornelia Street, ten minutes) and Katana Kitten (531 Hudson, two minutes). Martiny’s, on East 17th Street in Gramercy, is a short cab ride.
Which cocktail bars near West 10th Street take walk-ins?+
Angel’s Share and Katana Kitten are walk-in only. The bar at Employees Only and the bar at Dante are first come, first served. Guzzle, the ground floor at Sip & Guzzle, keeps space for walk-ins. Martiny’s takes walk-ins alongside Resy bookings.
Is Angel’s Share still on Stuyvesant Street?+
No. Angel’s Share closed in the East Village in 2022 and reopened at 45 Grove Street in the West Village in June 2023, about six minutes’ walk from WEST10WEST.
Can I have a drink before dinner at WEST10WEST?+
Yes. The bar seats five and takes walk-ins when seats are open. Katana Kitten and Employees Only are two minutes away if you want a cocktail first.
